This temporary visa lets an employer sponsor a suitably skilled worker to fill a position they can’t find a suitably skilled Australian to fill.

Basic Eligibility

You must:

  • be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor
  • have the right skills to do the job
  • meet the relevant English language requirements

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482)

Short-term stream

This visa enables employers to address labor shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.

Stay

You can stay for up to 2 years or up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies.

  • Your occupation is on either the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL)
  • You can work in Australia for up to four years. Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) Labour agreement stream This visa is for skilled workers nominated by employers who have a Labour Agreement. It lets you live and work in Australia temporarily. Labor agreements are developed between the Australian Government (represented by the Department) and employers. Stay Up to a maximum of 4 years, depending on the terms in the labor agreement.

Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) Subsequent entrant This visa is for family members of subclass 457 and TSS visa holders who are applying separately for their TSS visa and wish to join the primary subclass 457 or TSS visa holder in Australia.

You can stay for as long as your visa is valid.

This visa lets skilled workers, who are nominated by their employer in regional Australia, live and work in Australia permanently.

Basic Eligibility 

• be nominated by an approved Australian employer for a job in regional Australia

• be under 45 years of age

• meet the skills, qualifications and English language requirements

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa (subclass 187) Direct entry stream 

This visa lets skilled workers, who are nominated by an employer, live and work in Australia permanently. Apply for this stream if you don’t meet the criteria for the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream. For this visa:

• you must be nominated by an Australian employer

• you will work for your nominating employer in regional Australia

• your occupation must be on the relevant list of eligible skilled occupations • you must have at least Competent English
